Yesterday drove out in 88-90 weather and 20 minutes into my trip my tranny temp was at 180 and stayed there. Ive checked my oil for a funky smell seems fine. Just had its 100k tune up. Is that normal for its shooting hi like that after a tune up? Or was it that my truck was out under the sun and basically hot weather?
I started looking into this and found about these tranny coolers? I also ran into e fans? What would you guys recommend? Summer just started and my tranny didnt feel right at all. I have a 2004 SS. Would that same model form above fit 2004?
I originally installed a six pass Hayden cooler (19,000#) as my aux cooler, mounted in the open area behind the front liscense plate - license plate and holder relocated to enhance air flow. The 60 to 90 degrees above ambient was consistent while towing a 9,000# TT in 100 degree plus temps.
I replaced the Hayden cooler with the Tru Cool Max and experienced similar results - this was done long before the 6.0 cooler became available. I do not have the oil to water cooler and other than one time when stuck in stop and go traffic for an extended period of time, have never seen my tranny temps go above 185 degrees. In my case, I see no ned to convert to the larger 6.0 cooler.

I installed this Trans cooler on my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. I was getting Transmission temps of around 200 degrees on hot days and when I was driving hard.
Daily driving/highway would get up to around 180-190. I bypassed the factory cooler and installed the Trucool as a stand alone. Decrease in temperatures was drastic. Normal temps now are around 130-140 and only ever got to 190 when I was racing the car at the track. Highly recommend this Transmission cooler. My only suggestion would be to install with metal AN fittings to ensure you don't blow a fluid line in high pressure applications.
These brackets are to bolt a Tru-Cool Max 4739 Transmission cooler to a 1500 Silverado. It uses all the factory bolt locations so no drilling is required. These brackets are made out of 1/8' Aluminum. The driver side transmission line did not need any modification other than being pulled over a couple of inches.
The passenger transmission line has to be cut and spun about 180. This is done by cutting the line, spinning it 180. and using a standard compression fitting to put it back together. My transmission temps are about 160. with a Yank TT3000 (stalling at 3600rpm behind a 408) in 70.80. weather. I've been running this exact setup for over a year now with no problems.

These are ready to ship. $60 shipped for just the brackets. $75 shipped for the brackets and all necessary hardware to install the brackets. Includes quick disconnect fittings for the cooler, compression fitting, bolts, and nuts. You get everything as pictured except for the temp sensor. That is just to show that there is a spot for the temp sensor to snap into. I’ve had mine mounted using these wonderful brackets for hell and ever, so there is nothing new there, but one thing I thought I would add due to seeing people ask the question from time to time, is how easy it is to mount the standard sized Magnacharger heat exchanger while using these brackets with the TruCool.
I know a lot of people get concerned over whether or not they will have the room to make everything work together and it’s understandable, but to put peoples mind to rest, everything will work together just fine. The only modifications required at all will be to the upper bracket that holds the heat exchanger to clear the larger size of the transmission cooler. A few well selected bends and even the bracket supplied by Magnacharger works just fine.

The bottom shock absorbing mounts for the heat exchanger fit just as normal. So much better than plumbers straps, rubber hoses and clamps. Anyone on the fence and interested in installing the TruCool should really look into picking up this installation kit.
So i finally finished up installing my new trans cooler. Had the same one before but won't go into details. It broke, my fault. Anyways decided to do a much better job with the install this time.
Got the cooler from oregon performance transmission. They have it listed on their website for 135.99 plus shipping. Wonder woman 1975 costume. Now what i SHOULD have done, is just ordered the mounting brackets and hardware from guy over at performancetrucks.net. But i thought i could fab it all myself for cheaper.
Ended up only saving like 20$ and added about 6 hours of labor to the job. Next time, i wouldn't even think twice about ordering that kit from there. Anyways, here she is top bracket made bottom bracket made mounted so when i mounted it, i found out the hard way i needed to shift the trans cooler to the side as it was hitting the bolt that holds the steering cooler. There goes another trip to lowes and $10 for the piece of aluminum to make another. And here it is all finished and painted. Had to sort of make my own fittings.
Tru Cool Max 4739
The fittings that come with the performance trucks kit are literally IMPOSSIBLE to find minus the compression fitting. Tried to avoid using rubber tubing, but i had no choice.
Still came out okay. But just as a word of advice to anyone doing this install, spend the $75 on the mounting brackets and hardware as it will make this 10000x painless with great fit and finish.
